How snapchat started – Success story of 4th most popular social media in the world

Snapchat is one of the most famous social media applications. Reggie Brown was talking to his friend and fellow student, Evan Spiegel about pictures and said: “I wish these photos I am sending to this girl would disappear”. This gave Evan Spiegel the idea about Snapchat. They started a company with a former student Bobby Murphy. The original name for the site was picaboo and after the launching, as a mobile app in July 2011, they only had 127 users by the end of the year. Evan and Murp decided to remove Reggie brown from the company and the two of them relaunched the app with a new name, today popularly known as Sanpchat. In 2012 they added up some new features and it became popular among school children as they could text during class with no evidence. By April 2012 they had 1 lakh user. After that they got a venture capital firm to invest in their company and after that Spiegel dropped out of Standford just a couple of weeks before graduating. At the end of 2012, they introduced video snaps and by the end of 2013, they had 150 million snaps send per day. In November Spiegel rejected a $ 3 Billion offer for Snapchat from Mark Zuckerberg. In April 2014 Snapchat was valued at $ 10 billion. In 2017 Snapchat was valued at $ 25 Billion.
