Violence against women is one factor in the growing wave of alarm about violence in Indian society.

Indian Society has always revered women. In Hinduism, man and woman represent the two halves of the divine body. There is no question of superiority or inferiority between them.
According to the Mahabharat by cherishing the woman one virtually worships the goddess of prosperity.

Women crimes in Indian are keep on rising there is no specific definition for women crimes. In other, words we can say that any crime committed by women intentionally or with mens rea are women crime. 
Causes of crime by women 

1 Family atmosphere 

The first cause of women crime is family atmosphere. The woman becomes criminal when she lives in a family with polluted atmosphere. 

(2) Poverty 

The second cause of woman crime is poverty. The women of poor family are compelled to do crimes like smuggling, prostitution to fulfill their needs. 

(3) Sexual desire and sexual Excitement 

Woman having sexual desire or sexual excitement tend towards corruption and prostitution. The women of poor families step towards corruption and prostitution. 

(4) Negligence 

The negligence for women in the family is also a cause of crime. When the women do not get proper place in the family their needs are not fulfilled and they have to listen adverse remarks and scolding. 

(5) Dissolution of Marriage 

One of the causes of Women crimes is considered as dissolution of marriage. After the dissolution of marriage, women commit crime of suicide because of poverty, lack of money, and feeling of loneliness 

(6) Mis-guidance by Men 

In majority of cases men takes support of women to commit crimes. Women are made as intermediaries in case of theft, smuggling, opium, smack, injecting poison, and prostitution. 

(7) Obscene Literature 

For women crimes, obscene literature, television and internet are also responsible. Literature creates its effect on human conscience directly and man becomes affected 

Remedies measures for prevention 

(a) The family atmosphere should be made more healthy. 
(b) Place should be given to women in the family 
(c) The normal needs of woman should be fulfilled
(d) The moral limitations should be maintained in the family.
(e) The woman should be kept far off from obscene dances, TV, and movies 
(f) The dissolution of family should be checked
